Originally, like the "Star-Spangled Banner," it was a song that celebrated carousing and drinking, but has evolved so much over the centuries that it is now known as a nursery song for children. This tune also appeared in dramatic works such as Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" and Britten's opera, "The Turn of the Screw" as well as in the Disney movies "Cinderella" and "So Dear To My Heart." The version here (with fingering and phrase markings) is for the early intermediate student.
