An exciting, revolutionary approach to piano study! “This series of books represents a monumental and inspired contribution to piano pedagogy, which will surely become the benchmark by which other methods, before and after, will be measured.” —Seymour Fink, Professor Emeritus, Binghampton University A complete piano method for students K through adult, Music Moves for Piano is the first piano method to apply Edwin E. Gordon’s Music Learning Theory to the teaching of piano. This method is for students of all levels of music aptitude and any age. When music is taught as an aural art, lessons build a foundation for lifelong musical enjoyment and understanding. The progression from “sound to notation” leads to fluent music performance, reading, and writing. Students who use this program will learn to: Feel rhythm through movement activities and chant rhythm patterns. Sing songs and tonal patterns to develop pitch sensitivity and a “listening” ear. Understand the various ingredients of music, such as rhythm, meter, tonality, harmony, style, and form. Improvise using familiar patterns and songs: transpose, change tonality and meter, create melodic and rhythmic variations, and create accompaniments. Perform with tension-free technique.
Book 1 introduces folksongs in the major keyalities of G, F, and C. Students play folksong melodies with each hand alone and learn to transpose.

Music Moves for Piano
This is the very piano method I have been searching for since I graduated college as a music teacher! It is the ONLY rote-before-note method out there with such a beautiful integration of whole person musicality. No longer do I drill notes, remind students about steady beat til I'm blue in the face, or teach musically illogical pieces that are insensibly difficult and dissatisfying for playing. Instead my students are moving to rhythms, soaking up all kinds of patterns, learning to sing in tune, creating and improvising from day one. They engage a variety of musical styles, keys, modes, meters from very early on. I do admit that it requires a fair bit of teacher planning before each lesson, and I do draw a lot from my college education (not for the faint of heart). However, if you are up for the initial challenge as a teacher, you will not be disappointed!! You and your students will have fun learning to be better musicians together! Here's to research-based, student-proven method!
