  • August 31, 2012 Good Book, Good Variety

I have had the book for close to twenty years, and find it valuable for its variety and especially for the two Joe Lamb rags. Joe was my grandfather's cousin. His work isn't easy to find these days and I wanted to give the book to a young...

grand niece of mine so as to keep the family memory and alive and Joe Lamb's rags being played amon us. Sheet Music Plus made this search and purchase delightfully easy.

  • June 27, 2008 My introduction to Ragtime

I haven't played piano for 32 years and I wanted to get back into it, mostly classical. I found the Joy of Classical Music at a local store and loved it. I found the list of books on the back cover so chose Ragtime for the fun of playing...

something new. I like the syncopated rhythm. I'm still on the first half of the book which seems to be easier than the second half, so I can't comment on that. I'm glad to know where I can get something different when I require it.

  • August 19, 2005 Very Nice, Gradual Intro to Ragtime

I have had this book for a number of years, and still find myself referring to it. It includes relatively easy versions of classics like "The Entertainer" and "Black and White Rag" to get you started, and works its way up to the original versions of such things as Joplin...

's "Maple Leaf Rag" and Tom Turpin's "St. Louis Rag", which will prove challenging for intermediate players. All in all, a lot of fun, and something with which you can impress your friends, and yourself. I would like to see a discussion of technique, and how to approach playing some of the more difficult pieces, which is why I give the book only four stars. But in any case, if you want to play rags, this is a good book to get you started.
