Come play music written by kings and clowns, Ladies and lawyers, dance masters, doctors, and troubadours. Welcome to the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Creativity flourished throughout the times that produced writers, Artists, and scientists such as Dante, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Galileo. That inventiveness is evident in the imaginative and eloquent music in this collection. Among the melodies are a Portuguese troubadour's "Song for a Friend" written almost 800 years ago, John Dowland's "Midnight", silenced from the mid-1600's until the discovery of Margaret Board's Lute Book in 1970, and a beautiful and haunting song written by a Scottish Lady. There are over 40 tunes in this beautiful collection.

This is a lovely book, great for sight reading as the music is not very difficult and sounds beautiful. There is a great selection of tunes, from slow and pretty to dance music. Guitar/ukulele chords are written in and the tunes sound great with accompaniment. I'm a more...

advanced player but I enjoy being able to immediately play beautiful songs.

I like this book overall. Some of the pieces may not enjoyed by the audience as others. I like the concept of pieces that can be played either solo or with guitar accompaniment.

Excellent collection of early music solo pieces, including quite a few I have not seen in other collections. Many are also suitable for recorder.

I am a self taught flute player of two years practising one hour per day. I am finding this music easy to read and immensely enjoyable. Having the CD enables me to pick up my tempo and make reading the music much easier. After a couple of months I am...

able to keep pace with the soundtrack on the easier pieces. The medieval style is refreshing.
