No other great composer left as many works for piano duet as Franz Schubert. Making music with others, often in a social circle, was a solid component of the Schubertian circle of friends. With the Fantasie in F minor D 940 op. post. 103, however, Schubert completely left the sphere of social gatherings and created, in the first months of his last year of life, a work of almost symphonic form, whose elegiac atmosphere at the beginning sets the tone for the entire work. Schubert was apparently aware of the significance of the work and prepared it for printing: the autograph already contained in his hand the opus number of the first edition published in March 1829.

The score is consistent with the high quality typical of the publisher. No fingering, though.

If you like Schubert, this is a fun and interesting piece to play with a friend. Very emotional music with beautiful harmonies. The secondo part is a bit easier than the primo part, but both are doable if you are willing to sit down and learn the notes at a...

slower tempo to begin with, esp. the second half which goes a little faster.

A sublime piece from Schubert. Hard to play for a low intermediate, but enjoy managing bits of it. Wish all music books would lie flat when open as this one does.

Challenging for both primo and secondo, but not excessively so (I would rate this "9," not "10"), lovely melodic lines, a pleasure to play!

The horizontal design makes it easy for each pianist to read his or her own part. The page turns are well placed (alternating between primo and secondo). There are no fingerings (a few key ones would have been beneficial, especially near the end!).
