Composed by Elmer Bernstein. Arranged by Peter Rodney Hibbert. Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Peter Rodney Hibbert #4614081. Published by Peter Rodney Hibbert (A0.905605).

Concert hall performances of Elmer Bernstein’s beautiful music to the acclaimed movie "To Kill A Mockingbird" are based on the "Suite" that he published a year after the movie, in 1963. Most piano arrangements are based on that score to the Suite.

Much more neglected is the original 1962 film score, which was never published.  It is a far more delicately orchestrated piece, without the additional brass and percussion and the flashy opening arpeggios on harp and clarinet, more suited for the concert hall.

The film score has only recently been reconstructed, and the present piano arrangement is based on this.  It has a deceptive simplicity and a child-like innocence, which captures the essence of this prize-winning movie.
