The world-famous pianist Andras Schiff, a most familiar name to Bach fans on account of his complete recordings of Bach's piano works, has provided fingerings for both parts of the Well-Tempered Clavier. He discusses aspects of performance practice in a detailed preface. The basis for the musical text was Henle's revised edition of Part I published in 1997 and Yo Tomita's brand new revision of Part II (spring 2007). The eminent Bach scholar Tomita discusses the complicated source situation of Part II in an extensive preface. A detailed commentary rounds off the edition. Both parts of the Well-Tempered Clavier are also available as Henle Urtext editions without fingerings and as study editions.

This title has selections that range in difficulty from SMP Level 9-10.

Great Quality Purchase!
It came in the mail practically perfect, the fingering choices written in are a bit strange at time, but the score is printed at very high quality.

Excellent edition
The is version is beautiful printed and spaced, typical of Henle editions. That actually inspires more playing and practice. The fingering, by the outstanding pianist Andras Schiff, is very helpful. I sometimes thing that alternative fingerings would be a contribution, as everybody's hands are different!

Essential Bach
As usually the case with Henle editions, a beautifully printed and authoritative text. The Schiff fingerings are extremely helpful, and the clarity of the print layout is a big plus. Strongly recommended to every musician and music-lover.

Worth every penny!
Helen, you done it again, a stupendous choice for Bach fans everywere! The A Minor Prelude and Fugue are probably my favorite out of the '48' Such a wild Fugue, almost like im being surrounded by a pack of wolves, but in the end I win the battle. All in all, a great edition for Bach players!

Bach's Preludes and Fugues Book II
I have learnt to love the first book of the 48 which I acquired some 55 years ago. Since retiring and going back to piano lessons some 12 years ago, I have now tackled probably more than half of Book I and I love it. I think the fugues are masterpieces and fascinating. To master any one of them is very satisfying. I have also tackled a couple of Shostakovich's preludes and fugues. They are very different, but still satisfying, although probably not in the same league as Bach!! I am now looking forward to my next Bach Prelude and Fugue - from Book II this time.

Best edition!
As with all Henle books, this edition is beautifully printed and beautifully bound. The content is by far the best researched and most accurate of any edition. Book II of the Well Tempered Clavier is unbelievably complex and very difficult to play. I have learned so far 9 preludes and fugues from book I and only 1 from book II. I recommend learning Book I first for anyone seriously considering to learn the entire Well Tempered Clavier. Anyway, this is definately the book to buy for anyone studying Book II.

Wonderful Edition of Bach
Henle is truly my go-to edition when it comes to Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann. They're very well laid out, the engraving is beautifully done and extremely legible, and they are some of the most scholarly editions in print. I highly recommend them. I also recommend comparing them to other editions of the works, as you can generally trust Henle to be as accurate as it's possible to be, but it is a scholarly edition, not a performer's edition, as a Busoni or von Bulow edition would be. This is certainly not to say it's impossible to develop a good, unique interpretation from them (quite the contrary), but if you're looking for extra inserted dynamics, articulations and interpretive guidance beyond citations, you should pick up a different edition.
