The Nine Preludes for Piano Solo (1988) are written in a sophisticated contemporary Romantic style and span a wide variety of moods and textures. The key centers follow a spiral sequence that collectively defines an octatonic set, and certain symmetries can be observed within the preludes as a whole. The duration of the entire set is about 35 minutes, but each of these preludes can also be played independently to good effect.
