Karl Hermann Pillney (1896-1980) schrieb seine ,,Eskapaden eines Gassenhauers wohl original fur Klavier zu vier Handen, fertigte aber auch eine Fassung fur Klavier zu zwei Handen und eine Orchesterfassung an. Auf Grundlage des aus den 1920er-Jahren stammenden Schlagers ,,Was macht du mit dem Knie, lieber Hans, mit dem Knie lieber Hans beim Tanz? gestaltete Pillney einen Zyklus von Variationen, die auf uberaus geistreiche Art und Weise das Thema im Stil verschiedener Komponisten von Bach bis Schonberg erklingen lassen. Dabei stehen so bekannte Werke Pate wie Mozarts Zauberfloten-Ouverture und Rossinis ,,Diebische Elster, Schuberts ,,Wohin? aus ,,Die schone Mullerin und Verdis beruhmter ,,Triumphmarsch. Musikalische ,,Eskapaden mit unnachahmlicher humoristischer Note, die Pillneys ausserordentliche handwerkliche Qualitaten zur Geltung bringen.
