Bars 3 and 4 introduce the feeling of breathing cool, crisp fall air, after which the music settles into a more mellow feeling by bar 9. At bar 13 the river continues to roll along, depicted by the eighth notes in the bass clef, while the pleasant fall atmosphere is remembered with the high treble clef notes.
The composer has provided a few tempo and expression markings as a guide, however the piece is meant to be played expressively with the moving flow of the music dictating the expressive nuances interpreted by the performer.
