Tender is the night on what is, perhaps, Keith Jarrett's most intimate album. It is comprised of solo piano renderings of jazz ballads and folk songs, played with unmistakable affection. Jarrett dispenses with the jazz soloist's conventional emphasis on dexterity, the 'clever' phrase, the virtuosic sleight-of-hand. Instead he strips these songs to their melodic essence and, gently, lays bare their emotional core. This transcription, which has Keith Jarrett's personal approval, was worked out at the keyboard and aims, above all, for maximum playability within the greatest tonal range. Friedrich Grossnick, as an experienced pedagogue, has produced an outstanding score with particular sensitivity to Jarrett's interpretation thus enabling its faithful recreation on the piano.

There are no words
A masterful attempt to recreate on paper the elusive art of an improvisational genius. Buy it just follow the workings of Keith's mind, but bear in mind that there is no possible way to notate his rubato, even with the most specific tempo instructions. You have to hear it, feel it, play it. Then spin it so it syncs with your own soul.

Sublime
This is truly a masterpiece from two masters. Jarretts arrangements are exceptional in every sense. They are harmonically rich and rhythmically complex but only to serve the beautiful melody of the composer. Grossnicks transcription is impeccable and truly captures the essence of Jarretts intention. We must remember that this album is extremely meaningful as it was Keiths first offering after recovering from CFS.It deserves more than five stars perhaps a galaxy of stars.

Getting Keith Jarretts voicing under your fingers is a real joy and educationIf I was a piano teacher which Im not , I would consider using this material with students to study the art - its really good This is a treasure I will be playing the rest of my days and worth every penny and some - thank you Schott

Worthwhile look into Jarretts musicianship
This book is a pretty fiathful transcription of the album of the same name. It afforded me a good look into Jarretts phraseology, chord structures, and other typical musical patterns in these rather beautiful great American songbook standards or two folk songs. Some of the transcriptions are relatively easy for a mid-level player, and I am enjoying the challenges it provides for a player of my jazz piano skills. This is one of the few Keith Jarrett transcriptions out there that I am aware of.
