  • November 30, 2017 Dan Coates' repetitive style

Dan Coates arrangements all start to sound the same after awhile. Very few, if any, interesting chord progressions. Pretty melodies made to compete with the same repetitive, overactive base rhythm pattern he uses in song after song, book after book, with more notes than required for the music to be...

pretty. The spaces and rests between notes are as important, and sometimes more important, than the notes. Dan Coates rarely allows space or rests between notes. Sometimes simpler is prettier. When I buy a book of Dan Coates arrangements - I have three, I also buy a bottle of "White Out". This volume is not as difficult as his "Complete Advanced Piano Solos", as the simpler arrangements in that book are used in this.

A wonderful book with beautiful arrangements. In Don't Cry For Me Argentina, it's unclear where the 1st ending repeats back to. Any suggestions?

Professional sounding arrangements for piano solo's. Would buy other books of his arrangements in a heart beat.

  • July 23, 2008 Confusion as to other review?

Sorry, but this book doesn't contain, "Over the Rainbow" as described in a previous review. It does contain music from a previous release which is common with Warner Bros. and many other Dan Coates releases. The book is also not early intermediate, as the rhythms and general complexity of...

the music is far beyond the sight-reading of many ordinary pianists.

Beautiful arrangement as always because Dan Coates is the arranger. Can never miss with his arranging. It's a bit hard, but if one works hard enough on them, it can be played. It's a fun and beautiful challenge.
