This music book lots of easy pieces for the piano, such as "The Snake Dance," "The Escalator," and "Crunchy Flakes."

I used these music books as a child to learn piano and I still remember the notes and how to play some thirty years later. I went from the Red book to the purple book.

  • January 22, 2010 I'm in the Middle on This One

For the most part I enjoy this series. I grew up using it and I use this method, along with other methods, for my students. However transitioning some of my students from Primer Level to Book A has been quite difficult. They finish the Primer Level with barely any hands...

together practice and begin book A with a brand new Left Hand position WHILE playing hands together. I have noticed this to be a very difficult task to accomplish, especially for my young beginners.

  • June 13, 2009 Schaum's Making Music Method is Better

I like the older courses like this one for supplemental use. Schaum, however, has written a much better piano course that a lot of teachers don't even know about. It is entitled the "Making Music Method." The new course parallels this older one, but it uses modern pedagogy, including...

an emphasis on intervals and chords. Teachers who like Schaum will like the newer method, and they will be taking advantage of 60 years of research at the Schaum Piano School.
