  • December 11, 2011 Very Different Than the First

The second edition of the theory book is very different. Page numbers and activities have been changed. It's still a good method, but don't expect to use it with any of the first edition books or with your old lesson plans. I tech class piano and all of...

my students had to get the 2nd edition because it just wouldn't be compatible. I've also had to rewrite all my lesson plans, so be prepared to spend some time doing that.

  • August 18, 2011 NOOOO!!!!

I've used Faber's method for years and have always loved it. I cannot express my disappointment in their 2nd edition. On the 3rd page of the theory book they begin to teach improvisation! Why on earth would a child who doesn't know the difference between a C...

and G need to work on his improvision!? They don't need to be taught how to bang on the keys. Also, I feel they tried to 'modernize' with more graphics but they are simply overwhelming. I'm not looking for a picture book, just the old, wonderful, straightforward theory book. BRING BACK THE FIRST EDITION!

  • December 02, 2007 Very thorough exercises

Faber and Faber have the most thorough set of exercises I've yet seen in piano methods. Besides covering a wide range of skills, they have been very creative is designing exercises that look different from each other so the students don't feel like they're playing the same...

"games" over and over. I've taught 33 years and I'm glad my students like doing these theory books.
