    I love most of the Faber level 3 and 4 series of books--Hymns, Jazz & Blues, Rock and Roll, Classics-- and heartily recommend them to any student or teacher. After I've established the basics, I augment my classical training and theory with songs from the above list. These songs...

    are easily recognized and very playable. Additionally, they usually contain a very eclectic mixture of "old" and "new" music. You can't go wrong with the Faber publications I've mentioned!
