SKU: A0.771707

Composed by Gregory Hamilton. 20th Century,Christian,Contemporary,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 9 pages. Dr. Gregory Hamilton #32277. Published by Dr. Gregory Hamilton (A0.771707).

The Lamentation, for solo Piano was inspired by a visit to a friends house. During the Lent, my friend had displayed an Ikon of the Lamentation of Christ. This ikon inspired me to create musical figures which expressed the drama of the ikon. The work should be performed with much drama. Some improvisatory details need the performer to 'complete' and fill in with the spirit of the work. The final quiet lyrical section is an extended meditation on the Passion and should be played with slow, Adagio cantabile style, with rubato and freedom. The work was premiered by the composer at the University of Dallas, April 21 2011. www.gregoryhamilton.org.
