The three pieces, The New Big Brother, Cello, and Staccato, each employ hints of modern harmonic and melodic ideas. While sounding little like their models, each work takes its respective inspirations from three classic Schumann pieces: Melody, The Wild Rider, and The Happy Farmer. Students will enjoy the puzzle of how each pair of pieces relate to each other.
The works were written and premiered in 2010 in honor of Robert Schumann's 200th birthday.
