Schumann composed Jugendalbum within less than two weeks between August 30th and September 13th, 1848. "I think - he wrote to Reinecke - that the Album will sometimes raise smile on your face. I can't remember the time when I was in such a good musical mood as when I wrote these pieces. It was just flowing towards me."

Das Jugendalbum entstand zwischen dem 30. August und 13. September 1848, also binnen zwei Wochen. " Das Album - schreibt Schumann an Reinecke - wird Ihnen, denk ich, manchmal ein Lächeln abgewinnen. Ich wüsste nicht, wann ich mich je in so guter musikalischer Laune befunden hätte, als da ich die Stücke schrieb. Es strömte mir ordentlich zu".
