By Kevin Frecker. By African-American Spiritual. Arranged by Kevin Frecker. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Spiritual,Traditional. Score. 2 pages. Kevin Frecker #889718. Published by Kevin Frecker (A0.1299959).This arrangement was originally a Christmas gift to my family when I was 12 years old. Some slight revisions allow the rather limited harmonic language to better line up with common practice theory. The melody of the spiritual is given to the right hand throughout, with variation coming through the left-hand accompaniment. The refrain is presented twice, first with a dotted-rhythm Alberti bass and then with dotted-rhythm repeated octaves. The verse is set once, with the accompaniment doubling the melody two octaves lower and with a G-pedal point throughout. The last few measures include rising chromatic major chords covering the span of an octave before returning to the G-major tonic.
This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
