"Deck the Halls" (originally titled "Deck the Hall") is a traditional Christmas carol. The melody is Welsh, dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, "Nos Galan", while the English lyrics, written by the Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant, date to 1862.

The tune is that of an old Welsh air, first found in a musical manuscript by Welsh harpist John Parry dating back to the 1700s. Poet John Ceiriog Hughes later wrote his own lyrics. A middle verse was later added by folk singers. In the eighteenth century the tune spread widely, with Mozart allegedly using it in his 18th violin sonata (1778) and later Haydn arranged it in under the Welsh title, "Nos galan" (Hob. XXXIb:29, 1803)

Roger Williams burst upon the music scene in 1955 Autumn Leaves, the only piano instrumental recording to reach #1 on the Billboard singles charts greatest selling piano recording of all time. His version, with more than 2 million sold, became an American classic and still stands as the greatest selling piano recording of all time.

Known as "Mr. Piano", Roger Williams went on to receive 21 Gold and Platinum albums. He was the first pianist to receive a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.

On Roger Williams’ 80th birthday, Steinway presented him with the first art case piano ever built to honor a Steinway artist, known as the "Roger Williams Limited Edition Gold Piano." .

Williams was the first pianist that Steinway & Sons honored with their "Steinway Lifetime Achievement Award" and was a featured artist in Steinway and Son’s 150th Anniversary at Carnegie Hall.
