I disagree with another reviewer who says this book isn't used by teachers who have taken a Piano Pedagogy course. As a Juilliard graduate, this book is not only recommended but lauded as a solid course for beginners who are serious about piano study. Many of the other courses...

are "dumbed down" and don't start the student on the staff. For someone worried about "finger numbers" it surprises me they would recommend courses that start ONLY with finger numbers!Yes, this book and the next books in the series expect a lot from the student. They also expect a lot from the teacher. Any trained teacher will supplement every course they use and not expect the course alone to teach everything. Many of the other courses are for "lazy teachers" who really don't know how to teach. If you don't know how to explain what you are teaching, don't use this course. If you know what you're doing, this is one of the best. I can also recommend Schaum, which starts on the staff.

For the little beginner this is a colorful and enticing book.(5 to 8 years old) I was not able to find this book anywhere in our local music stores.
