    Difficulty Level:
  • August 02, 2018 Great for Intermediate Students

This book is a great level; right between intermediate and advanced, with plenty of interesting pieces (in not-too-small-to-read notes for once!) that my students like to play. Enjoy a throwback to the olden days with a romantic approach to the Bourrees from Bach's Third Cello...

Suite that includes piano accompaniment (!) -- an approach that would would be considered quite unfashionable today. Perform the Bourrees with piano at your peril (there are music snobs everywhere) but enjoy playing them for fun in the privacy of your own home. The other pieces and transcriptions are quite playable and fun to perform.

I bought this mainly for the piano part. All of these pieces are in the 'music minus one' edition. The 'music minus one' version comes with a play along piano part, but no piano score. It also has the better edited cello part. The bowings and fingerings in the otto...

Derri version are pretty terrible. As for the pieces themselves, this is a great collection of intermediate cello songs. Most can be mastered in one or two sittings, making them a pleasant way to sight read new, 'light' literature.

I think solos for the cello player is a very good book. It was a bit difficult and I have something to work with. I have played Cello for 6 years (5 when I bought it) and the book was just what I was looking after
