This classic series of duets for like instruments is recognizable to nearly everyone who has ever studied an instrument. The wealth of material supplements musical development and provides a rich experience for growing musicians. Duet playing is often a student's first form of ensemble experience - technique, tone quality, intonation and balance are introduced as students do one of the things they enjoy most - making music with a friend. And duet playing leads easily and naturally to competent performance in larger ensembles. (Vol. I - Easy to Medium, Vol. 2 - Medium to Advanced).

  • July 11, 2011 Good Book for More Advanced Student

This is a good book for flute students who are looking to improve on playing independently. The pieces are challenging, but not impossible with normal rehearsal time. My flute students enjoy working up the pieces to play in public. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a challenge...

    for their flute students.

Some very nice pieces for first flute, but the second flute parts are weak. It really helps motivate players if what they are playing sounds like something on its own, and not just in combination with the first flutes. Otherwise a solid collection.

  • May 29, 2008 Another solid collection of duets

These light baroque and classical pieces from a variety of composers nicely fit the flute and violin duo for whom I purchased the book. Lots of interesting canonic material sounds more difficult than it it really is, and the non-canonic tunes are also well conceived although more "notey" and...

longer than the first volume of these duets. All pieces are appropriate for reception/dinner background music, recital music, or even ecclesiastical purposes. I'm sure that these can be easily and successfully adapted for other instrumentations as well.

  • May 14, 2008 I'm not here yet.

I am currently working on Volume 1 and love it. This Volume is too advanced for me, but it won't always be so. I believe it will be a good as Volume 1.
