Beethoven taught Czerny. Czerny instructed Liszt and among Liszt's pupils was Joseffy. Everyone wrote a practice Manuel/s except Louie Beethoven, who might have put together a collection like John Sibby River's (J. S. BACH) A.M.B. Book, if he'd had the time. My last teacher...

highly recommended this book, but only by taking up the exercises one needed to solve a problem. When I watch Cziffra play I see his father, the cabaret artist, making it look easy and entertaining. So please, use your exercises to gain information and if you still use Hanon get a mindfulness colouring book instead.

I'm out of shape and this is really working finger independence. It always seems like that's goes first for me. Joseffy demands that I concentrate all the time. No breaks like you get with Hanon, etc. This is definitely the work I need right now.

  • 2008-08-28 00:00:00.0 Excellent Technique Book!

This is a great book for the people bored with hanon, czerny ,etc and I rate this much higher than both Hanon and Czerny. It has all kinds of finger strengthening exercises, scale exercises, octaves, thirds all written in an innovative way, sometimes with a support finger holding down a...

key all time while other fingers do the exercises.. this is great for finger strength as well as dexterity! Another feature I love is that most exercises have to be played through all the 12 notes.. unlike the first so many exercises of hanon which you play only on the white keys (but you could of course do those on the black keys as well, but these exercises are tailormade for you to play on each of the 12 keys) This was the only exercise book my teacher in Vienna asked me to get.. This however must be played only when you have attained a certain level of playing, say an intermediate level.. This is for a lot of passage preparation, legato playing, etc.
