Wohlfahrt Easiest Elementary Method is a great teaching tool: it builds musicianship as a student progresses. Schirmer Edition is the best: good font and excellent layout.

  • June 12, 2003 Excellent for teaching sight-reading

This book is a series of teacher/student duets. Wohlfahrt starts the student off on open strings, and with each exercise, adds a new finger or challenge. Because the steps are small and progressive, it is ideal for the student who can read notes and needs experience in sight-reading...

. In addition, playing chamber music with the teacher, starting at such a beginning level, provides a sense of accomplishment.
