Very much enjoy the challenge of playing piano music written by Liszt. All of Liszt's piano pieces sound wonderful when played properly. Excellent to have the fingering noted on the difficult parts greatly helps. His piano transcriptions of various operas are very deep in character and meaning...

, and would recommend them to any pianist.

An affordable and good quality Schirmer edition of these works exists under the name "Rhapsodies Hongroises" Get that instead.

Not the clearest edition, but the pianist I bought it for was delighted and satisfied.

    Difficulty Level:
  • January 18, 2008 Liszt was a genius! this edition stinks

Liszt was a genius... in my opinion, the greatest composer of piano music ever.. bar none. Each one of the Hungarian Rhapsodies are stunning and brilliant. It is a shame that this edition was put out. it's on 8 1/2 by 11 paper and the notes are very...

small. not to mention a horrible printing job. don't let the low price fool you because you get what you pay for. notes are incredibly small and the book does not lay flat... the pages are also extremely thin. Get the C.F. Peters editions, they are expensive, but well worth the price. Rule #1: never buy music books from Schirmer or Dover!!!!

    Difficulty Level:
  • January 14, 2008 Love the Songs, not the edition

I am not basing this review on the quality of liszt's music. I really did not enjoy this book. The print is so small, the pieces look more difficult than they are, and tend to discourage you. I have trouble reading the text from a few feet away at...

the piano, and I am 15 years old! I really do love these pieces, but do not care for the edition. Think twice before purchasing. I do not feel it is worth the money. Oh, and the cover art is disturbing too.
