Instructional. Instructional, Blues, Jazz and Rock. Instructional book. With instructional text. 71 pages. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.221028).

Item Number: HL.221028

ISBN 9780793520916. 9x12 inches.

This book presents a practical approach to improvising through a system of patterns in a traditional blues style. Because so much of today's popular music has its roots in blues, the material included here is a vital component of jazz, rock, R&B, gospel, soul, and even pop. The author has compiled actual licks, riffs, turnaround phrases, embellishments, and basic patterns that define good piano blues and can be used as a basis for players to explore and create their own style.

I use this book with students who are interested in improvising their pop, rock and jazz music. Excellent examples, good explanations; and no need for a CD when the teacher is competant to play the examples in many different keys. I highly recommend this book as an addition to other...

exercise books, as it gets the student thinking beyond the box.

I bought Blues, Jazz & Rock Riffs For Keyboards several years ago and use it as a refernce book. It is good to learn blues licks, but lacks one important thing: a CD, or midi files to HEAR how the licks sounds. There are marvelous information on that book but since...

blues is mostly a music of feeling it is hard to translate those licks in a live solo situation.
