For the first time, an adult course has combined Lesson, Theory and Technic sections within one book. This combined approach offers beginners a unified course of instruction. This course is for adults who prefer a chord approach. It teaches chords for both hands so that the student can play more than single note melodies. At the completion of this course, the student will have learned to play some of the most popular music ever written and will have gained a thorough understanding of the basic concepts of music. This book includes a CD that has accompaniments and rhythms for songs in the book.

  • June 16, 2008 Great course, terrible CD

The course is superb. The right pace and progression. The CD is not piano music so it does not sound the way it is to be played. In fact the CD sometimes has accompanyment which also detracts from the quality. We need a CD that plays each piece the way...

it is written and on a piano.

  • February 29, 2008 Excellent book to get you started

Having skipped book 1 (only recommended if you've got some informal experience) this book has got me off to a good start - immediately engaging the use of Left and Right hand and reviewing significant chords by using practice peices that aren't obscure. Definitely get the CD version; it...

really helps - particularly with rhythm!

  • July 26, 2007 This is one great book and cd

I used the level 1 book in my piano class that I took because Alfred's books were highly recommended by my instructor. I have found that the book and CD combination very helpful. The CD has helped me hear what the songs/notes are supposed to sound like since...

I teach myself these days. I couldn't teach myself without the CD and book combination, there is no way.

  • July 08, 2007 Choice of Songs

I didn't like the choice of songs. Level 1 had a nice choice of popular songs while this course had a bunch of old songs and waltzs I don't know. I have to like the songs I am learning so this wasn't a good choice for me...

. Perhaps you should look at the index before the purchase, I wish I did.

They are well written and easy to follow. It has all the popular songs/music. I have enjoyed level one and two. Looking forward to buy level three.
