Louisiana Blues Strut: A Cakewalk
Louisiana Blues Strut: A Cakewalk , by Coleridge Taylor Perkinson for unaccompanied violin is a cool piece, filled with syncopation, and cool rhythms, double stops and triple stops, glissandos, and more. I'd played his Blue's Forms also for unaccompanied violin and liked that as well. I was looking for some fun piece I hadn't played yet. I really liked Augustin Hadelich's recording on youtube. As a classically trained violinist/violist, that listens almost entirely to classical music, I am always looking for contemporary or unknown pieces to add to my repertoire, that are nice to play and to listen to. I usually want music with some tonality that is pleasant to listen to. This piece certainly fits that description, with the jazzy rhythms and cool harmonies. it is both fun to play and to listen to. Coleridge Taylor Perkinson was an African American composer in the USA, Another reason I was anxious to try his music.
