Wade in the Water is an African-American spiritual believed to have been sung by slaves in the US during the first half of the 19th Century. It is said that Harriet Tubman used this spiritual to tell escaping slaves to get off the trail and into the water to avoid being discovered by the slavers' dogs.
This arrangement for Intermediate Piano uses the tune to describe musically how the slaves' journey may have progressed from stealthily wading down a river bank then marching and running to make their escape to freedom.
