Published by Servant Song Music and Ministry (A0.1044416).The SATB Choral/Piano Accompaniment score of "This Is Our Prayer" came from a humble musical prayer that I composed as Putin's army invaded Ukraine in February, 2022. I made a simple piano/voice/guitar recording in a local studio, and put it together with some images of Ukraine, which I then uploaded to YouTube as a way to facilitate online use of the hymn. In the first month, it generated over 10,000 views, and congregations of many different denominations used the piece in their worship services in well over 40 countries. Choir directors and music ministers started to contact me online, wondering if I'd created a SATB choral score. This month, I'm pleased to say that the answer to your question is now yes! I've partnered with the talented music engraver, Joyce Vickery, of Vickery Music. She has helped me score this piece for SATB choirs. This version of the piece will be suitable for both beginner and intermediate church choirs; the piano score maintains some of the original voicing from the PVG version of the hymn in the introduction and conclusion of the piece, but underscores the vocal harmony beautifully during the body of the arrangement. This arrangement functions very well as both a choral means for the choir to lead the congregation in a musical prayer or as a piece of "special music." I wrote it with Ukraine in mind, but it is thematically appropriate as a faith-filled response to any kind of armed conflict, social unrest, or violence; for example, some US congregations recently used this piece after the mass shooting in Uvalde, TX. The lyrics are simple, yet profound, and the melody is highly singable and accessible for small choirs and congregations. The voicings are beautiful for a full SATB choir, but if you are lacking men in your ensemble, the SA or SAT lines can easily be sung without the lowest voice(s). All profits from this project are being donated to the Red Cross and the United Church of Canada's Mission & Service Fund - both to designated programs for relief efforts in Ukraine.
