Poems about the life of the individual and the artist in a totalitarian state
by Reiner Kunze, translations by Ewald Osers
Music written and composed by David W Solomons

The End of Art
"You mustn't" said the owl to the moun-tain cock
"You mustn't sing  of the sun - the sun's not im-por-tant!"
The moun-tain cock struck the song from its poem.
"You're an artist!" said the owl to the mountain cock.
And there was darkness all round.

Interrogation
"Bad", she said "was the moment of undressing."
(aah)
Then, exposed to their gaze, she discovered ev'rything
about them
(mm)

Poetry Reading
There was also one
who wrote it all down
words for word
verse for verse
wrote it down
In the morning
the papers kept silent
In the evening
the screen showed serried ranks.
