Stirling Bridge Mass Choir - Sheet Music

This Mass setting is built around an old Scottish chant, which comprises the music for the Gloria movement. It is easily sung by cantor and congregation, or by congregation alone, although the Gloria is most effective in alternation. The melodies are quite singable and in comfortable congregational range (middle C to 4th-line D). Owing to the Scottish roots of the underlying chant, this Mass is named for Stirling Bridge, the location of a decisive battle in Scotland on September 11, 1297, wherein the Scottish infantry, led by William Wallace and Andrew Moray, defeated the English cavalry of John de Warenne (Earl of Surrey) and Hugh de Cressingham at Stirling Bridge on the River Forth. The text is the current 2010 ICEL Roman Missal translation and the setting has the approval of the Committee on Divine Worship, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
