Commissioned by the Shizuoka High School Band Association.
The request was for a "percussion ensemble that can be a standard in the repertoire using typical equipment including marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, chime, bass drum, snare, and tom tom."
Not only is it relatively easy for any group to have the instruments, but the grade level is not too advanced, and the performance outcome is fairly effective.
The piece is roughly divided into two elements: the part regarding the motif and the Allegro at the three chimes in measure five. It begins by contrasting these two elements, but especially the Allegro requires precise beat and tempo. Play with a solid time feel. Also, always pay attention to balance and interplay between parts. This type of work has highly variable expression and dialogue depending on quality of interplay. If you carefully study the function of each sound, you will naturally discover the direction of the piece.
