These six related piano miniatures take the form of different 'views' of common material. The title is taken from a phrase used in the cult 1960s TV programme 'The Prisoner' ("Six of one and half a dozen of the other"). The work explores a wide variety of piano textures and techniques, within an angular, post-tonal style. The movements are conceived in the manner of short TV incidental music cues and aim to reflect the austere atmosphere of the TV series. The piece is accessible to the listener and is appropriate for advanced students and professional players.
