A ricercar is an instrumental work that was popular in the late Renaissance/early Baroque period of the early 16th century. Jeremy Kempton has written the "Ricercar for Sonorous Instruments" for Trombone quartet that hearkens back to the days Gabrieli. This 3-minute work is in A-B-A format beginning with a light and rhythmic Allegro followed by a contrasting lyrical scale-like melody and concluding with the Allegro.
