By Doris Day. By Jay Livingston. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. This edition: audio, pdf, streaming. Broadway, Film/TV, Multicultural, Musical/Show, Singer/Songwriter, Standards, World. Score. 4 pages. Timothy Stapay #1140773. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1568682).
"Que Será, Será (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" is a song written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans and first published in 1955.Doris Day introduced it in the Alfred Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), singing it as a cue to their onscreen kidnapped son.
The three verses of the song progress through the life of the narrator—from childhood, through young adulthood and falling in love, to parenthood—and each asks "What will I be?" or "What lies ahead?" The chorus repeats the answer: "What will be, will be."
When I was just a little girl I asked my mother, "What will I be? Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?" Here's what she said to me
Que sera, sera Whatever will be, will be The future's not ours to see Que sera, sera What will be, will be
Since I am just a boy at school I asked my teacher, "What should I try? Should I paint pictures? Should I sing songs?" This was her wise reply
Que sera, sera Whatever will be, will be The future's not ours to see Que sera, sera What will be, will be.
