This is a companion piece to Robert A. Howard's Pastoral Intermezzo (also available via SMP), as is the set of 2 pieces), featuring a thematic link to the former work in its middle section (based on a series of parallel seventh chords). This second piece conveys a rather popular (if not romantic) 'cafe classics' style with liberal use of appoggiaturas, descending sequences, arpeggio accompaniments and a nostalgic cantabile melody. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for virtually any standard of pianist, including students and more advanced players.
