SKU: C5.7065

Composed by Benjamin Rogers. Arranged by Raymond Clark. This creative arrangement of an English translation of the Lent Matins hymn, Audi benigne Conditor combines a Sarum plainsong chant setting for all five verses with two verses set to an SATB arrangement by Benjamin Rogers (1614-1698). It's a rewarding and. Lent. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.7065).

Text source: Aude benigne conditor.

This octavo uses an English translation of the Lent Matins hymn, Audi benigne Conditor ("Hear, Kind Creator"), whose text was written by Saint Gregory the Great in the 6th century. Five verses of the Sarum plainsong chant version are given with a simple Amen and light organ accompaniment. Certainly the hymn can be sung this way, possibly alternating women and men, or children and adults, or even choir and congregation. However, the arranger also supplies an SATB, homophonic version of Verses 2 and 4 by Benjamin Rogers (1614-1698), an organist who worked at churches and chapels in Ireland and England. The choral parts are easy, with extremely comfortable ranges, and the Sarum plainsong can be mastered readily. The arranger gives two alternate Amens for SATB, one simple and one more extended and ornate. This is a rewarding and satisfying addition to any choir's Lenten repertoire!
