Mykonos is one of the most popular of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean. The most important town is that of Mykonos, a harbour on the west coast. The most important source of income for the island is tourism. The magnificent landscape, in which white and blue dominate in the dazzling light, is the great attraction of the island. Apart from this, there are also many churches, chapels, windmills and a couple of museums—Mykonos is a truly ideal holiday destination.The Belgian wind band composer Johan Nijs captures impressions of the island’s atmosphere in Mykonos. The work is written in a typically Greek style: two sirtakis are employed and the piece closes with acharacteristic Greek presto. Greek sounds are also incorporated into the slower passages.

Mykonos is een van de populairste Cycladeneilanden in de Egëische Zee. De belangrijkste plaats - een havenstad gelegen aan de westkust - is Mykonos-stad. Het toerisme vormt de belangrijkste bron van inkomsten op het eiland. Het prachtigelandschap met zijn heldere licht, waarin de kleuren blauw en wit domineren, is de voornaamste bezienswaardigheid van dit eiland. Er zijn ook veel kerken, kapellen, windmolens en een aantal musea te vinden - het is dus eenecht vakantieparadijs.De Belgische blaasmuziekcomponist Johan Nijs liet zich voor zijn werk Mykonos door de sfeer op het eiland inspireren. Het is in typisch Griekse stijl geschreven. Er zijn twee sirtaki’s in verwerkt en definale omvat een karakteristiek Grieks presto. Ook in de langzame passages werden Griekse klanken verwerkt.

Außerdem gibt es viele Kirchen, Kapellen, Windmühlen und ein paar Museen - Mykonos ist also ein wahres Urlaubsparadies.Der belgische Blasmusikkomponist Johan Nijs ließ sich für Mykonos von der Atmosphäre der Insel inspirieren. Das Werk ist im typisch griechischen Stil geschrieben: zwei Sirtakis wurden darin verwendet und derSchluss enthält ein charakteristisch griechisches Presto. Auch in den langsamen Passagen wurden griechische Klänge verarbeitet.
