Music for Little Mozarts
This is a great book for young beginners. It's colorful, has a story line throughout the book with characters like Mozart Mouse and Clara the cat. The pieces are short, for short attention spans but foundational concepts are taught and developed through the songs learned.

Great for Very Young Students
This book is a great combination coloring, theory, note spelling, and ear training book that works really well for very young students. It is a great tool to have and I always do the workpages with the students (rather than assigning them as homework), since they are younger and it is hard to fix a coloring page that a young student might have done wrong at home. (It also helps break up the lesson, to help keep the very young student's interest!)However, some of my older students who have used it (6 or 7), find it slow and uninteresting, so I always pose the question: Do you like to color? to the student. If the answer is yes, they usually love the book. If the answer is no, I usually start them on the Hal Leonard Student Library Notespeller (book 1) instead.
