The popular "Gaudete" from "Piae Cantiones" (1582) is the basis of this festive piece for Christmas services and concerts, scored for brass quintet, percussion, and organ. The organ part provides toccata-style accompaniment and melody-building interludes, while the brass alternates the main theme and the triangle, tambourine, and timpani (one percussionist) add color and even more vitality. At around 3.5 minutes, this piece makes an excellent postlude, prelude, or interlude for any Christmas service, or an exciting and tuneful element in any concert.
