Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles arranged for string orchestra or string quartet. Students and audiences will recognize this Beatles tune and enjoy its dramatic flair. The mysterious intro leads into driving quarter notes, challenging students with changing syncopations and accent patterns. The chorus has a galloping, cinematic feel, which quickly comes down for a verse featuring melody in the low strings. A chorale-like chorus allows students to focus on expression and legato playing. After a grand pause, the violins pick it up into the galloping final chorus with added technical sixteenth notes and the chart ends with a ritardando into a sustained minor chord.
