Blues du Jour was designed to be a flexible piece, enabling you to feature just about any soloist in your jazz ensemble. The solo beginning at measure 33 may be played by 4th Trumpet, 2nd Alto, or 2nd Tenor. The solo at bar 77 may be played by 2nd Trombone, 1st Tenor, or Baritone Sax. The chart may also begin with rhythm section blues choruses (piano, bass, or guitar solos) with the top of the score playing on cue. The backgrounds at bar 53 have been written in such a way that each section's background figure may be played by itself or in combination with any or all of the other section backgrounds. A layering of these figures (saxes, trombones, then trumpets) creates a nice gradual building of intensity leading into the next ON CUE section at bar 65. The concept at bar 101 is similar in that the sax figures may be played independently, later adding the brass for the final build to bar 113. With all the possibilities, this blues tune can be completely different each time it is performed. Do your best to be creative with it, truly making it a BLUES DU JOUR. Trpt. 1 to written high E with one Opt'l. double high G. 5/4/4/G/P/B/D. Medium difficult.
