Beth is a short (2:12) early intermediate piano solo whose composition was stimulated by Alcott's book Little Women. The heading "Delicately" is a general comment on the character's nature, but the piano piece is not always played delicately. The piece portrays the flaw in Beth's character; so the music tries to overcome (like Beth trying to conquer her shyness) by trying to modulate, but it always comes home again. The end, like Beth, is marked by calmness. It is part of a set of 4. The other 3 being Meg, Jo, and Amy.
