Published by Melody Music Publishers (A0.950421).Drill & Excel On the Piano Book 1 is a 114 page piano method book for the early beginning student for ages 8-adult. It’s in 3 chapters: chapter 1 is the right-hand middle C position, chapter 2 left-hand C position one octave below middle C, and chapter 3 has both hands in the C position. Each chapter includes note reading worksheets, so the student repeatedly fills in and draws the notes on the staff. This the first layer of understanding and remembering the notes on the staff. Rhythm is taught with multiple rhythm drills for the student to play and count out loud. It includes the quarter note/rest, half note/rest, dotted half, and whole note/rest. The C scale is introduced in each chapter playing hands separately for the first two chapters, then hands together in the 3rd chapter. Exercises are included in each chapter that is suitable for the beginning students. Each chapter ends with the student writing their own song to use what they’ve learned to incorporate a deeper learning and retention level. And the best part is 60 original songs (20 per chapter) that use the notes and rhythm for each chapter information. And there’s a bonus at the back of the book, Christmas songs for each chapter’s level! When Christmas comes around, the student can play Jingle Bells arranged for the chapter they’re playing. By the end of the book, the beginner student reads fluently and plays in the C hand position.
