Composed by Nancy DeVries. Arranged by St Raphael's Psaltery. Sacred. Score. 3 pages. Nancy DeVries #6447541. Published by Nancy DeVries (A0.964556).

Ave Maris Stella (Hail, Star of the Sea) is a piano solo inspired by the famous and beautiful Gregorian chant hymn of the same name. The piece strives to capture the sublime beauty and mystery of this title of the Blessed Virgin Mary "Star of the Sea" and tries to convey a musical image of starlight upon the waters. This advanced intermediate level work may be a good introduction to less familiar time signatures (5/4) because the rhythm seems to flow quite naturally from the opening motif. With the B minor tonal center evolving to B major, this is a colorful, rewarding, and enjoyable work to learn and to play for those at this level.  Suitable for recitals, church related programs, especially celebrations or feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary - or for one's own personal enjoyment.   .
