The Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No. 1 beautifully arranged by Mark LaFratta for Brass Quintet was compiled by Respighi as a Piano transcription in 1917 and is based on a Renaissance collection of works for Lute by Molinaro, Galilei (father of the famous Galileo), and two other anonymous composers from that era. The four movements are titled: 1. Simone Molinaro, 1599 2. Vincenzo Galilei, 1550's 3. Villanella (anonymous late 16th century) 4. Passo mezzo e mascherada (anonymous, late 16th century) This 16-minute work is appropriate for advanced performers and a joy to perform.
