Scutum, the Shield was named for King John III Sobieski of Poland by Johannes Hevelius in thanks for his help rebuilding his observatory after a fire. Over the years, it was in and out of the star charts until 1879 when its stars were given Greek letters and it became one of the permanent 88 modern constellations. From “88 Constellations” a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano).
