WE ARE THE DUST OF STARS, for treble choir (SA) with piano accompaniment, was commissioned for and premiered by the AppleChor of Red Apple Elementary School, directed by Jack Senzig, at the Horlick Area Choir Festival in Racine, Wisconsin. The text is by Jack Senzig and Greg Bartholomew. A "Back to School 2015" feature. Duration: 3 minutes. WE ARE THE DUST OF STARSWe are the dust of starsExploded long ago.Dust made the Earth and Mars, and life began to grow.Dust turned to flow'rs and trees. We are such stuff as these. The atoms of the universeCombine and recombineAs molecules disperse Across all space and time.Through the Milky Way they fly,Past Planets, Comets and Nebulae.*My big toe was once part of Pluto. My elbow has bits that were Spain. And in another millenniumI can't say to what proscenium My molecules might pertain.Who knows what lies in storeFor the dust that now is us.We head for the farther shoreO'er seas most mysterious. The stars in Heaven's domeWill welcome us back home.We are the dust of starsExploded long ago.Picassos and Renoirs, And everything we know.Pineapples, birds and bees.We are such stuff as these.Coconuts and chimpanzees,The Alps and the Pyrenees,We are such stuff as these. We are the dust of stars.* Authorities do not agree on the pronunciation of "nebulae." These lyrics use one of the accepted pronunciations to rhyme "nebulae" with "fly." An alternate version is provided that rhymes "nebulae" with "Milky Way.".
